Asthma Swim Asthma Swim is a free program for children who have been diagnosed with asthma. During the workshops, children learn the basics about asthma and its triggers, as well as how to manage the disease. The children also spend time in the Dorchester House Multi-Service Center pool learning basic swimming skills and playing games. Children must have a medical form completed by their health provider in order to enroll. Ages: Location: Hours: Basketball Clinic DotWell Teen Center is offering a Basketball Clinic for teens interested in improving their skills on the court. Learn the fundamentals of basketball: shooting, passing, dribbling and defense. We also offer Jr. Beantown Slam for middle school-aged youth. Location and Hours: For more information, please contact: FANtastic Kids FANtastic Kids is a weight-management program for children ages 8-12 who are overweight. The gender-specific groups meet twice a week for two hours over the course of 12 weeks per program cycle. Children learn about healthy lifestyles and nutritious foods during the first hour of the session followed by exercise and fun activities in the Dorchester House Multi-Service Center pool and gym.Our goal is to help children manage their weight in a positive and supportive environment and teach them self-management skills. The full-sized gymnasium is open year-round, offering a veriety of recreational and fitness programming to all ages in our community programs. The gymnasium is also available to rent by community groups, organizations, and schools. For the Gym schedule, click here.

Codman Square Health Center has teamed up with the Healthworks Foundation to build Healthworks at Codman, a women’s and children’s community fitness center, located at our 450 Washington Street site. Membership to Healthworks at Codman are available on an income-based sliding fee scale. With the addition of the fitness center, the 450 Washington Street site now offers women opportuinties to increase their education, computer literacy, fiscal health, physical well-being, and overall self-esteem. Guard Start provides basic training in swim technique and endurance, water safety, and first aid. The goal of the program is to prepare students for the Life Guard Certification program.Life Guard Training provides structured water safety and life saving training as well as CPR for the Professional Certification and First Aid AED Certification. This program is in collaboration with the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and guarantees youth who pass the certification program employment at locally DCR managed pools. Ages: Guard Start is for students between 12 and 17 years who are future aspiring Lifeguards who require skills development and training. Dance Session DotWell Teen Center has an exciting program for teens to explore different dance styles, ranging from Salsa to Hip Hop. Cost: FREE Eligibility: Teens 13-18 years old For more information, please contact: Pool Use The Dorchester House Multi-Service Center Pool is open year-round, offering the community a wide variety of recreational and fitness programming including swim lessons. Fitness programs include water aerobics, water babies and lap swim. The pool offers adult, youth, senior and family membership packages at competitive rates; some programs have a nominal fee. The pool is also available for rent by community groups, organizations and schools. Summer programs include daily Community Swim, when the pool is open to the community for two hours at a nominal fee of $1 per youth up to age 16 and for those over age 60, and $3 for adults ages 17-59. Please check the schedule below for more information.We also offer Aquatic Games to middle schoolers who want to participate in organized water games including volleyball, basketball and deep water diving. Class sizes are limited to five students per instructor to insure the safety and quality of swim instruction and are offered in seven-week sessions. Students train in four competitive swim strokes: freestyle, back, breast and butterfly in addition to learning racing dives. The swim team practices three times a week with Friday evening swim meets.
