Diabetes

DotWell offers a variety of Diabetes-focused classes to empower individuals with diabetes by teaching self-management techniques and educating the public about diabetes awareness.  We also screen for diabetes within the community and provide wellness, outreach, and case management services to our patients.

Cooking Classes

Kathy Gorman, Registered Dietitian, provides tips and recipes for eating healthy while on a budget.Classes focus on how to select fresh produce, how to cut your spending, and delicious recipes that won’t break the bank! Please call Kathy for more information and how to register for the next six-week session.

Eat Green, Save Green

Similar to our cooking classes, Eat Green, Save Green is designed to teach you how to save money, while still cooking healthy meals with fresh ingredients. Classes will focus on nutrition, how to choose healthy foods while following a budget, and how to create healthy meals. The group will spend one class at the grocery store, assessing prices and learning how to choose fresh ingredients carefully.

Dorchester House Multi-Service Center
1352 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester

Dates:
The current class is every Monday from June 21st-August 9th, from 10:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Codman Square Health Center. Participants must be signed up in advance for this class.

Healthy Eating for Diabetes

The Codman Square Nutrition Team offers diet and nutrition advice to those with diabetes who are looking for better ways to manage their disease.

The 3rd Tuesday of each month, from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.

Everyday Eating for Diabetics

Everyday Eating is a hands-on cooking class where participants learn how to cook healthy, diabetic-friendly meals on a budget. All foods that are used in this class are available at the Dorchester House multi-Service Center Food Pantry.

Dorchester House Multi-Service Center, Multi-Purpose Room
1353 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester

Dates:
The last Thursday of every month, from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Eligibility Requirement:
Participants must be patients of the Dorchester House.
